responsibilities include:
a self-starter, the successful candidate will support the country editor to manage a small team of writers to produce high-quality english-language content about chinese startups from various key sectors, from agtech to fintech, logistics to tourism.

1. writing (stories, analysis, features, database reports, graphics)
2. conducting interviews
3. research
4. seeking out leads and coming up with story ideas; helping to plan and craft new, compelling angles to major stories
5. staying actively involved, well informed and up to date on the chinese startup scene; being cognizant of trends, issues and leading players, and developing insights on their impact
6. attending events, such as networking sessions, product launches, conferences
7. developing contacts and useful and exclusive sources of information and stories
8. participating in local hiring for compasslist
9. supporting the country editor to manage the work of local editorial team members, including minor editing, to ensure quality
10. supporting social media team in content feed

the selected applicant will work closely with the rest of the compasslist team from across asia, europe and the us, and attend online team meetings when required.

applicants should be experienced online journalists with a track record of producing engaging, insightful, accurate, clear and well-argued copy. chinese is must and chinese native speakers are welcome to apply.

note: this is a full-time freelance position. a minimum input of 30 hours per week is required.
