(new york or california) with a valid working visa. the translator position (english<>simplified chinese) is a key player for the production department with a focus on financial translations. transperfect’s finance team services works for the top players within the financial industry with a focus on investment banking and equity research, requiring an extremely high level of service, professionalism, and translation quality and care. your particular language skills and investment banking and equity research knowledge will allow you to produce well-polished and client-facing translations up to the standards of the client. the translator will be responsible for managing all aspects of quality production on the translations coming across your desk.

accurately translate documents, not specific to one industry or area both english into chinese as well as chinese into english comprising the following points as well:
-able to understand the meaning and context of research reports or any other research related material, and is able to translate into chinese language by making sure that original context and meaning is preserved
-able to consult, discuss and highlight any content related issues or concerns with subject matter experts and other colleagues in order to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately
-able to refer to online translation tools for additional assistance with translation, where applicable
-able to research, check and confirm statements, numbers, company/ product names and other material in written research submitted (as necessary)
-able to ensure consistency between underlying arguments, financial models, and investment conclusions (as applicable)
-translating a variety of documents including literary, legal, research, technical and commercial materials
-edit jobs by freelance translators and reach out to senior linguists for final approval on modifications
-maintain glossaries and style guides
-juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
-receive requests from client, understand the scope, negotiate timelines if needed and coordinate with the offsite translation team
-flexibility to work in a shift schedule including evenings and weekends, if needed
-ad hoc tasks as requested by the client or your supervisor
-building and maintaining strong, positive relationships with our client to deliver high quality written communications with tight deadlines
-managing projects/deliverables by actively communicating with team members about deadlines and informing all interested parties of deliverable timelines and status
-responsible for timely escalation of any issues to your manager and assisting them in resolving issues as well

required skills:
-fluency in simplified chinese and english
-excellent communication (written and verbal) skills in simplified chinese and english
-ability to support multiple projects by keeping accurate and up-to-date project specs
-ability to accept feedback and use it advantageously on future tasks
-sound project management and organizational skills required
-strong working knowledge of ms office applications
-high attention to detail, focused on effectiveness and accuracy, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
-comprehensive knowledge of international financial markets
-highly collaborative with an ability to work in a team environment
-independent self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and has a strong work ethic
-minimum passing grade simplified chinese to english and english to simplified chinese language tests
-subject to a background check

required experience:
-minimum bachelor’s degree in translation or relevant disciplines
-minimum of 3 years experience translating or editing financial documents
-experience using translation tools or ability to learn and use various tools to perform translation and publishing tasks

desired skills and experience:
-experience in financial/investment banking sector
-prior equity research industry experience is a plus
